I updated computers and am now having problems playing video files through Easyslides? When I play a video file I get the sound from the video file – but my display is black. Any suggestions on what I could try to fix it? The video plays fine outside of Easyslides.

If so, I can test it on my system.Bert
July 18, 2024 at 2:09 am #862jmcimsaskatchewanParticipantDo you have your screen on “Extended” display or on “duplicate”?
July 19, 2024 at 1:12 am #863mikeemoParticipantIt’s on extended display. It works fine for Powerpoint and works fine for song lyrics, Bible verses, etc. It’s just the video files that won’t display through Easyslides – but as I said – the sound will play fine – the display just turns black when I try to play one.
As mentioned – I can play the videos outside of Easislides in Windows Media Player just fine on the display screens.

July 19, 2024 at 1:13 am #864mikeemoParticipantBert – it’s happening with any video file I play in Easislides. The sound play but the display just goes black?
August 8, 2024 at 7:20 pm #867broetmanParticipantI’m sorry: I was away on holidays the last weeks and haven’t seen the forum for a while.
You add the video just bh drag it directly into the schedule?
IF the video plays well in VLC then you could look at the file VideoExtensions.txt in <EasySlidesData>\Admin\Settings
Mine looks as follows:
.asx
.avi
.dvr-ms
.ifo
.m3u
.mpeg
.mpg
.m1v
.mp2
.mpa
.mpe
.vob
.wax
.wmx
.wmv
.wpl
.wvx
.flv
.mp4If not solvng anything: In the latest Beta it is possible to export the whole schedule to a zip file which can be stored and shared to any orther similar ES installation, independent of installed databases, bibles ec.
IF you do so and create a wetransfer link to it, I can have a look. At least we’re then talking about the same files

August 10, 2024 at 12:14 am #868mikeemoParticipantBert – curious question – I don’t currently have VLC installed on this machine. I’ve got Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic. I’m not sure what Easyslides is using when it tries to play a video? Is there a way to default which player it uses? I didn’t know if it used the windows default video player? I don’t know if that could possibly be the problem? I did check the extension file and it looks pretty much like yours.
August 10, 2024 at 8:55 pm #869broetmanParticipantWell, afaik, it’s Windows mediaplayer, but due to lack of contineous support from MS on certain versions of the WK’s programming environment, changes were necessary in this respect. I’m talking about chamged for the 5.1 version, which was the last in the ‘old’ environment (again afaik)
So, be sure to have the latest (V 5.2 RC4) Beta installed
August 22, 2024 at 1:45 am #872mikeemoParticipantI have confirmed that I have the latest 5.2 RC4 installed. On a curious note – I tried turning Windows Media Player off to see if that would change anything. Easyslides would not even start with it uninstalled/turned off. When I turned it back on – Easyslides loaded just fine – but still same results – any video I play the screen turns black and all I get is the audio. It’s really driving me bonkers. I have loved Easyslides and have used it for several years – but I need to be able to play video files through it. Not sure what else to try?
August 24, 2024 at 8:42 pm #873broetmanParticipantJust Try a repair of WMP:
Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Scroll down and click the three horizontal dots next to Windows Media Player and choose Advanced options, and click the Repair or Reset button.Or a reinstall:
Click the Start button, type features, and select Turn Windows features on or off. Scroll down and expand Media Features, clear the Windows Media Player check box, and click OK. Restart your device.HTH
August 27, 2024 at 6:07 pm #874mikeemoParticipantbroetman -I did try try the WMP reinstall. As noted above – I couldn’t get Easyslides to work with it turned off. When I turned it back on and Windows re-installed it – it is still doing the exact same thing. I am the point of trying to put a different computer here. I would have already tried that – but I need 3 video outputs and I don’t have another one with a card for 3. My other thought was to order a different brand video card and try swapping that out to see if that would make a difference. I did get Easyslides to work fine at home on my computer with 2 monitors. I just feel like I’m kinda shooting in the dark.
September 28, 2024 at 12:07 am #882mikeemoParticipantAll – I think I finally got this partially solved. I tried a 2nd video card and I was still having the same issue. I went back to the “Screens” settings in ES and played with them. I discovered that if I have Stage Display 1, 2, and 3 all set to “Secondary Monitor 2” that a media file will play on my Live Screen. It won’t play on my confidence monitor – it is just black. If I have any of those stage displays set to anything else besides “Secondary Monitor 2” – everything goes black when playing a media file. Besides my computer display – I’ve just got 2 other outputs – one for my live screen and one for my confidence monitor. I guess I’m not understanding these settings?
I was reading back through some of the previous posts and sounds like I can only play a media file through 1 video output. Sounds like it won’t play through 2 video outputs at a time? Can anyone else confirm that?
